The European Internet users plead for the neutrality of the Net

90 % of the European Internet users expect from their internet access provider that it does not limit the access to certain sites or services on Internet.

A European great majority want an open Internet; in any case in France, the United Kingdom and Germany, where a study was driven by the institute Synovate. 90 % of about 1 000 respondants expect from their Internet Service Provider (ISP) that it does not limit the access to certain sites.

This attachment in the " neutrality of the Net " is defended in particular by the publisher such as Google, Yahoo which request this survey with the telephone service Skype. A way of influencing the European institutions, which whom have to discuss in the next days of the “Package Telecom”.

According to the European consumer association Beuc, these figures show that Europe has to guarantee an open Internet. “We ask them expressly to preserve in the final text the principle of 'neutrality of Internet' and to warranty a open access for the European consumers” indicate their press release.

However, if the Europeans are favorable to this open Internet, many are lacking information on the subject. Indeed, less than 10 % knows the way their ISP manages the access to Internet and 44 % only suspects him when a website is inaccessible. Besides, if their ISP blocked websites, from 7 to 15 % interviewees would be ready to choose a more expensive competitor.
